Following the major train derailment near Lewes, East Sussex, Omni Group is supporting the teams involved in the ongoing recovery operation, including Network Rail and VolkerWessels UK. The complex and time critical nature of the works requires continuous coordination, dependable material supply and the ability to respond quickly as the recovery progresses.
As part of our role, Omni Group has been tasked with supplying approximately 3,000 tonnes of Primary Type 1 aggregate. The material is being used to construct crane mats and provide the stable working platform required for the specialist heavy lift cranes involved in recovering the derailed carriages.
We are also supplying 130 one tonne aggregate bags to form a two bag high retaining wall as part of the temporary works. With safety and programme requirements driving every stage of the operation, maintaining a reliable flow of materials to site is essential.
To support the project, Omni Group teams are operating 24 hours a day. Our facility, weighbridge, loading shovel operators, transport teams and drivers are working throughout the night to maintain continuous supply and ensure materials reach site when required.
Projects of this nature demonstrate the importance of having the operational capacity to respond at short notice and perform consistently under pressure. From material availability and loading through to haulage and site delivery, every part of the process needs to work together to support the wider recovery programme.
